If you’re looking to add a touch of farmhouse or cottage coziness to your interior home decor, then you absolutely have to incorporate vintage wooden signage on your walls.
Vintage signs provide the perfect level of rustic charm to really complete a farmhouse interior design style. On top of that, wooden signage especially adds that extra level of warmth to your cozy cottage home.
Although you can find antique-styled signage in a variety of materials – from plastic, to metal signs, to everything in between – I would really recommend sticking to wood signs if you’re aiming for the ultimate rustic feel in your home.

I’ve compiled a series of ideas to inspire your hunt for the perfect wooden signage for a vintage modern style. The options are endless when it comes to to the types of vintage wooden signs you can buy, create, or find. Adding a unique piece to your home is a great conversation starter and just simply adds that touch of rustic charm.
At the end of this post, I’ve also added a link to my favourite way to make DIY vintage-styled wooden decor, I’ve tried it myself by making DIY wooden coasters and I highly recommend this easy method to create faux antique signs!
So without further ado, let’s jump right in!

Repurpose Vintage Crates
If you have a vintage crate laying around, or one with a vintage style print on it, and you’re not planning on using it for storage, you can actually repurpose it into your very own vintage wall sign!
That’s what I did with an old crate we found on our property when we bought out home. My husband upgraded it into a key holder because we both liked the vintage signage on it so much!

Most older wooden crates are easy to take apart, allowing you to make a very quick and easy DIY vintage piece for your walls.
Vintage crates are readily available in antique store, thrift shops, and online on Ebay or Marketplace. Take a look at these inspo photos below to give you an idea of what to start looking for!

Storefront and Trade Signs
Vintage storefronts and businesses had genuine vintage signs with so much character! You can still find a lot of these for sale on Marketplace or in antique shops, or you can opt for purchasing a new sign designed to have that iconic vintage storefront feel.
Signs like these are perfect for kitchens, hallways, bedrooms, and bathrooms (depending on what the sign says of course).
Smaller signs also the perfect size for décor on shelves and side tables!
Check out these options (some I’ve which I found locally on Marketplace!) to inspire you:

Signs For All Occasions!
Whether you’re looking for a charming and rustic Welcome sign to warmly invite your guests into your home, or something with a little extra character using painted or colored motifs, the options truly are endless.
Here are a few more miscellaneous signage to inspire your hunt for thrifted (or newly purchased) vintage wood signs!
I’m loving these folk art vintage style signs that really do add quite a bit of character to a space. You’ll especially create the farmhouse or cottage cozy feel with these styles:

And this beautiful piece doubles as a key holder! I love the ornamental additions to this wall accessory.

Speaking of key holder, here’s another multi-purpose idea for a vintage wood décor piece for your walls: A bottle opener! Perfect for home bars, backyard patios, or a game room.

Maybe a mid-century modern owl is more your style? It still evokes a lovely sense of cottage cozy symbolism while providing a more minimalist addition to your vintage décor.

Or maybe you’re looking for signage that specifically acknowledges a specific room in your home. If that’s the case, check out this vintage-styled board for your laundry room, or this “Old Toys” sign perfect for a playroom!
